Graduate School Project
brand partnership: LEGO + MoMA
Challenge: Create a partnership between two brands of our choosing, then make something.
Solution: We created a program at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, for helping children with Auditory Processing Disorders appreciate art through art therapy sessions and a creative outlet, using custom LEGO bricks.
Strategy: Build confidence and independence in children with Auditory Processing Disorders through the program.
We 3D printed large LEGO bricks that illuminate when placed in the correct place atop a famous piece of art. We used a Piet Mondrian painting in the prototype. Conductive terminals on the bottom of the bricks complete a circuit only when placed on conductive paint, which is used throughout the painting. Each color brick corresponds to the color on that piece of art. Paired with simple auditory instructions, children can use sight and touch to compensate for their disability. This creates a system of instant feedback and self checking, increasing the child's ability to take auditory instructions.
